Amanda Buchana

Yoga became a part of Amanda’s life in her youth at Idyllwild Arts Academy in California. She was accepted into the dance program where  classes were based around the artform and kinesiology. She studied anatomy, musicality, strengthening, and performance. She went on to study dance and received her BFA in 2001 under the same type of curriculum. While in school she became very interested in eastern philosophies after taking several semesters of Zen Brush painting accompanied by morning meditations with a Buddhist sensei.

After completing training in ballroom dancing she continued pursuing movement through teaching ballroom, ballet, and contemporary dance. In 2005 she met my dance partner and they began training in Pro-Rhythm and competed professionally for five years along with teaching pro-am students. They opened a studio in 2009 and had a successful business for 11 years. Flashing forward to 2012 when she took my first hot yoga class at Summits Hot Yoga and loved it!!

It was a combination of everything she trained and studied to be. Movement, meditation, positive diligence and the feeling that everyone could participate. These ideals were always something she professed to the dance students she taught and represent her core values in the practice of yoga. She continued to practice everyday along with dancing and teaching.

In 2020 she moved to Florida with the intention of opening a ballroom dance studio, but for many reasons decided to focus on Yoga Asana practice and meditation. She received her RYT 200 in 2023. She was drawn to and inspired by the holistic pursuit of this practice that combines mind, body, anatomy, breath, historical knowledge, and humility as we all take this journey through Yoga.

She has had many great teachers over the years including her father who continues to hand her new Yoga books and she is very grateful for all of them. She is a true believer that Yoga is for everyone!
